A pencil and crayon drawing of a Deltic diesel locomotive travelling at speed. This is a composition working from several photos. I wanted to create a scene from the autumn of 1980 a few months before this (my favourite) locomotive was scrapped.
The low afternoon sun suggests that the train is travelling northwards. Dirt sticking to the damp train looks rust coloured in the sunshine. A streak of pale blue running down from the windscreen is like a tear-stain where rain water runs off. The driver is just visible through the crazed and scratched perspex window.
This is me back in 1979 with the same locomotive, "The Fife & Forfar Yeomanry".
